In 1923, Mayme Sevander was born in Brule, Wisconsin, and spent her childhood
in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York City before her family emigrated to the
Soviet Union in 1934. In the Soviet Union, she was a member of the communist
party until her resignation after the break up of the Soviet Union, but she
remained a socialist in the purest sense of the word. She died in 2003.
