Burt Rairamo

Biographical Information

Burt Rairamo is a poet and writer who lives in Toronto, Ontario, with his wife
Diane. He was born on July 3, 1938, in Viipuri, Finland, and grew up in Viipuri and
Tampere, and then moved to Toronto in 1952. He graduated in 1965 from
Ryerson Polytechnic Institute (now Ryerson University) with a degree in
technology and in 2005 from the University of Toronto with a degree in Finnish
Studies. He has worked in Toronto as an engineer and manager in the energy
industry and ran his own business from 1987 to 2005.

Burt is concerned with “constant personal improvement” and has strong beliefs in
God and nature. He says, “I would like to do something to enhance human
experience on this earth, maybe through my poetry, short stories, or a novel or
two. . . .” Further, he says, “Finnish experience in N. A. [North America], I believe,
needs to be explored more in writing particularly. . . .”
