Sylvia Eliina Hutonen Mackey

Biographical Information

On August 27, 1918, Sylvia Eliina Hutonen was born to Finnish immigrant parents in
the Dakotas where her family struggled to make a living on a drought-strapped farm.
Eventually, the family moved to Astoria, Oregon, and Sylvia eventually moved to
Vancouver, Washington, where she worked in the shipyards during WWII. There, she
met and married George Mackey with whom she had four children, Ron, Carol, Greg,
and Cynthia Ann (Wyatt).
